Manta, a leading American software company specialising in data lineage and visualisation, is at the cutting edge of innovation in its industry. As the company continues its global expansion, particularly in Lisbon, Manta identified the need for a modern, flexible workspace to support this growth and enhance its operations in the region.
Manta engaged SpaceWorks with a clear and ambitious vision: to design a state-of-the-art office within the prestigious Exeo development in Lisbon’s Expo area, a renowned business hub. The goal was to create a highly adaptable workspace that reflected Manta’s brand identity, fostered collaboration, and prioritised employee well-being—all while the company was in the midst of a major rebranding effort.
SpaceWorks faced the challenge of designing a workspace that would align with Manta’s innovative spirit while providing a high-performance environment. Complicating this was Manta’s rebranding, which occurred midway through the project. In response, the design team adopted a "back-to-basics" approach, focusing on intuitive layout, generous circulation, and a zoning strategy that allowed for flexibility as the design evolved. Key elements included maximizing natural light and adhering to advanced ergonomic principles to create a wellness-oriented and efficient office.
One of the most striking features of the space is its curved, wave-like reception desk. This sculptural element serves as the office’s welcoming point but extends beyond typical reception functions. It cleverly integrates a range of practical features, including printing stations, audiovisual controls, and even wardrobe storage. Drawing inspiration from the fluid forms of marine life, the desk’s organic design embodies both elegance and efficiency. The undulating shape not only creates a visually engaging focal point but also optimises the use of space by accommodating multiple functionalities in a seamless manner.
Equally noteworthy is the custom-crafted seating distributed throughout the office. Designed with flexibility and comfort in mind, these bespoke joinery pieces are strategically positioned to cater to various work styles. Employees are provided with an array of seating options that allow for different modes of working—whether they require a quiet nook for focused tasks, a collaborative hub for team brainstorming, or a relaxed area for casual downtime. Each seating arrangement has been meticulously tailored, fostering both individuality and community, while also reinforcing the brand’s identity through unique design elements.
With Manta’s global reach and strong focus on teamwork, the office required flexible spaces to support both internal and external collaboration. Multiple meeting and conference rooms were designed to accommodate groups of different sizes and purposes—from brainstorming sessions and client presentations to team discussions. Each room is equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology to ensure seamless communication and effective meetings, whether employees are collaborating in person or with colleagues around the world.
Recognizing the importance of social interaction in a modern office, SpaceWorks incorporated two inviting social areas at opposite ends of the floorplan. More than just places to grab coffee, these communal spaces were designed as interactive hubs where employees can connect, share ideas, and recharge, fostering a sense of community within the office.
The final result is a contemporary, cutting-edge workspace that reflects Manta’s forward-thinking philosophy. The design enhances productivity and creativity, fosters collaboration, and provides a comfortable environment where employees can thrive. Located in the prestigious Exeo development, this office underscores Manta’s commitment to growth and innovation, reinforcing its position as a global leader in software development and a significant player in the Lisbon ecosystem of tech companies.
SpaceWorks has delivered a workspace that not only aligns with Manta’s business goals but also nurtures a vibrant company culture. This modern, adaptable office serves as a model for cutting-edge design in one of Lisbon’s premier business districts.
